Microsoft Office 2013 Preview : First Direction

Maximum people who uses windows in their system uses MS office also as it helps to Word, excel PowerPoint helps us in daily life in many ways. From MS office 97-2003, 2007 to 2010, always Microsoft had done better changes in every release, now as preview of Microsoft Office 2013 got released recently; it made me excited to write details about it and its features.

In today’s blog I am going to give a little detail about it and in my corresponding posts I will be giving details about each Word, excel PowerPoint and other in each post.

The new Microsoft Office 2013, as told by Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer as the most ambitious version so far, takes advantage of cloud computing and is designed for use with the upcoming Windows 8 operating system and touch-based devices like tablets. Still it is useful as old one as it responds to mouse and keyboard also. J The new Office is social and unlocks modern scenarios in reading, note-taking, meetings and communications, and will be delivered to subscribers through a cloud service.

You can download the customer preview from office.com/preview. Office 2013 is compatible only with windows 7 or windows 8 preview, so to use it you must have windows 7 at least. It will not work in windows vista also.

Minimum hardware configuration required for the same is:

  •  3.5GB of free disk space and an X86 or X64 systems clocked at 1GHz or higher.
  •  DirectX10 graphics are required, along with a minimum resolution of 1024 x 576.
  •  Microsoft also recommends 1GB of RAM for 32-bit system and 2GB for 64-bit machines.

Sky Drive:

Microsoft has made some subtle changes to the UI, and they're all quite important. For starters, no matter what app you're using, you'll find your name and Microsoft account details in the upper-right corner. Through it you are always connected to cloud “sky drive” and can directly save the data there.

Now can save your data in Microsoft cloud service sky drive and can access it anytime from anywhere you want. (To know more about clouds click here). You can work offline and save it to your local sky drive folder. Then, your files will get saved in your sky drive account when you will be connected to internet. On the other way when you first try to save it, automatically it will give online sky drive folder as default location. You can change it to your local machine if you prefer.

You can save the data in other cloud also like Dropbox or Google Drive; however you have to do it manually.
As you now using cloud instead of your local machine to save data, you can access it from anywhere or at any time. You can share it with your friend also very easily.

Resume Reading

In Office 2013, a new feature of resume reading is introduced where you can bookmark a page and then later can start reading from that place only where you have stopped previously.

“Office comes bearing glossy new icons, for one. Different apps like Word and PowerPoint have improved alignment guides, which become visible when you're inserting tables and other objects (we first noticed this while inserting a YouTube clip).
Also, animated transitions are everywhere: a slide of the screen when you hit the File tab, Excel charts growing before your eyes. As a Microsoft rep explained it, the idea is to offer some visual feedback to new users, who might not totally know their way around yet. Whether you require that kind of babying is debatable, but we're sure of this much: the animations are slick -- pretty, even -- and everything about the suite feels fast: fluid, brisk and refreshingly devoid of bugs.”

Another feature is Windows RT: Office Home and Student 2013 RT, which contains new versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote applications, will be included on ARM-based Windows 8 devices, including Microsoft Surface.

Skype:

The new Office comes with Skype. When you subscribe, you get 60 minutes of Skype world minutes every month. Integrate Skype contacts into it and call or instant message anyone on Skype.

People Card:

Have an integrated view of your contacts everywhere in Office. The People Card includes presence information complete with pictures, status updates, contact information and activity feeds from Facebook and LinkedIn accounts.

Here are the three subscription models:

Microsoft is previewing the Office 2013 subscription as part of four different “Premium” versions of Office 365, including a consumer edition:
·
  •      Home Premium, for up to five PCs, includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access, Publisher, and One Note—bundled with an extra 20 gigabytes of SkyDrive storage. Hough suggested that consumer subscriptions would also come with Skype minutes.
  •      Small Business Premium, for up to 10 users, includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, One Note, Access, Publisher, InfoPath and Lync, as well as hosted Exchange e-mail and a business SkyDrive for shared documents. Each user can install Office 2013 apps on up to five different computers.
  •      Pro Plus, similar to the current Office Professional Plus plan, includes the same applications as Small Business Premium, with 25 user accounts and five installations of Office per user. This can be added to an Office365 mail and collaboration subscription or used standalone.
  •       Enterprise, which includes full enterprise versions of Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online services.

(Mac users, don't feel left out; Microsoft says that Office 2011 for Mac OS X will also be included in these Office 365 subscriptions when they're finalized.)
