The addition
of camera in smart phone has led to adding important moments of life with the phone.
So whenever we go, we click and save the moments in our SD card. Now sometime
problems may come when accidentally photos get deleted.
Before knowing
about how to recover them, let’s learn a bit about SD card and its way of
saving files. Smartphones are like small computer and Android are their OS. At the
time of starting the phone, android scans for all the memory in the SD card and
if it is not able to read some files (corrupt files) then move them into LOST.DIR.
What is LOST.DIR?
LOST.DIR is
a system folder maintained by the OS. While the phones starts, Android OS places
the recovered files in it. If OS is unable to understand a file, then it move
the file to LOST.DIR. Normally files present in the LOST.DIR are recoverable. It
can be considered as “Recycle bin” of the windows system.
Files
may end up stored in LOST.DIR folder due to following reasons:
- Abruptly pulling out SD card
from Android phone
- Interruptions while downloading
files on Android device
- Sudden freezing of Android
device operating system
- Switching off the device while
some read-write process is carrying on
The files
in the process of copying are also renamed.
How to recover files from LOST.DIR.
If the
files present in the LOST.DIR are not recovered quickly and there are chances
of losing them. So it advisable to recover them as fast as possible. If you don’t
want to recover any file, then you can delete the content of it also. It is
safe to delete the LOST.DIR folder also to free the space in your phone. The OS
will create an empty LOST.DIR in next phone start up.
